Queer Kids Need Camp Lightbulb

Many queer kids are longing for a place to feel like home. Even in the “woke-est” neighborhoods, queer teens face some of the worst rejection at school, from being harassed in the hallways to being called slurs in front of teachers who don’t stand up for them.

Queer kids haven’t had their moment of acceptance yet, with adults and peers often misunderstanding them.

They can experience daily abuse, with the solitude of homeschooling or online school as the only alternatives. This bitter choice can cause queer teens to believe they will never find their team and enjoy life like the “normal kids.”

Queer kids are looking for a home and a small spark of hope that others understand the secret woes that they could never speak out loud and the paper cuts of words spoken by parents who can’t find the right message of consolation.

Camp Lightbulb offers that home with a glimmer of life as part of a community and a strong sense of belonging on this earth.
